Being a writer is easy. I know it first hand. Wanting to make a career out of it, like writing novels and screenplays for a living, is tough. That too, I know first hand.
So to find out how I can be successful, I constantly read and watch the advice of other writers and go-getters of the world in the hopes that they might shed a light on what I have to do to make it. After all, to achieve success, you only have to imitate it.
And their advice helps a lot. The best writers tell us that to be a full-time novelist we have to do two things. First, write, regardless of if you’re in the mood or not. Second, read consciously, so you understand how to use language to convey your story.
But a word of caution.
Do not only focus on what it takes to grind out success.
What else do you need besides motivation?
No matter what you do, make sure that when you do it, do it for the love and the passion – or the reasons you started doing it in the first place.
Motivation, hard work, and determination make the quantity adequate. But love and passion are what makes the quality shine through.
So for all the countless advice you receive about never giving up and sticking to your guns, remember that the reason why your grandma’s food always tastes delicious is because her secret ingredient is love.
To all the writers and aspiring writers out there, here is a little example of the kind of advice you should listen to as often as you listen to the other motivational messages. Enjoy!
My two cents
If I could offer one piece of advice on what you have to do to get to where you want, it would be this. Start. Once you get off the ground, it’ll be easier to figure out what you need to do to be successful, and where are the areas of improvement.
I was hesitant to start my vlogs. But after the first one, which was terrible, I felt more comfortable and improved with each video.
