Should you quit your job to chase your dream?

Should you quit your job to chase your dream?

That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it?

Maybe your day job is the preventing you from devoting the necessary amount of time to perfect your craft and create opportunities for yourself.

Or maybe it’s helping you to take the necessary risks when pursuing your dream because you know that there’s something to fall back on.

Whatever it may be, I hope this article can help you make the right decision. Here are 3 things you need to consider before giving up everything to chase your dream

Here are 3 things you need to consider before giving up everything to chase your dream.

1) Is it commercially viable?

It’s fine if you want to pursue your dream. But if you want to give up everything and focus solely on it, you must ask yourself:

Is my dream commercially viable?

For example, if your dream is to be a world class sprinter, it’s good to map out right from the start how you can monetize it.

As a sprinter, you’re likely going to make your money attending big championships, getting endorsements, or having a generous benefactor.

2 out of 3 of these require you to perform at a high level. That means, it’ll take some time before you can get there. So how will you be making money to support your climb to the top?

We live in a great time when it comes to pursuing your dream and making money from it. We’ve seen people become millionaires just by posting videos on Youtube or playing computer games. Literally, anything is possible.

It’s worth chasing your dream. But always keep in mind where the money is coming from while you’re trying to get there, and if you’ll be able to make money from it.

2) Is the pursuit of your dream actually limiting you?

Perhaps this would be best explained using me as an example.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. And not too long ago, I considered giving everything up to pursue it wholeheartedly.

But along the way, I was offered opportunities to do exciting things that I was just as interested in. So I had to stop and ask myself.

Do I want to limit the opportunities of value in my life by saying no to them unless it’s related to writing?

Keep in mind, there is no right answer here. But for me, it was a no. I feel like life is about capitalizing on opportunities that help you grow. So regardless of whether it has anything to do with what you want, you should say yes and pursue it with all your energy.

Because what’s life without a little risk, adventure, and a trip outside your comfort zone?

3) Are you chasing a dream because you really want it or because the end result looks awesome

The idea of owning your own business is definitely appealing. The independence and wealth you can get from it is probably unparalleled.

But the journey to that point is just as hard as you slogging it now for something you’re not happy with. So if you’re going to drop everything, make sure it’s for the right reasons and that you really want it!

Conclusion

The truth is, I’m a dreamer. I’ll always support people’s desire to drop everything to chase their dreams. After all, YOLO right?

But at the very least, ask yourself these 3 questions before jumping head first into endevours such as this. It’s for your own benefit.
